I regularly cry at work. My co-workers think I'm being too emotional. What do you think?
-Cry Baby
Dear Cry Baby,
We live in a world that has taught us that crying is a shameful act. This is simply not true. Over generations, I have watched the creatures of the earth cry. I have seen rabbits sob hysterically. I saw a tortoise weep. Just yesterday, I saw a horse with tears running down its eyes (but that was probably for no reason because horses are drama queens). Crying is as timeless as sunshine. And, believe it or not, it is just as crucial. I am crying as I write this.
If you co-workers believe you are being too emotional, this does not speak to a brokenness or failure on your part. It speaks to a brokenness and failure on theirs. Your co-workers seem more interested in living lives as bot people than in living lives as emotional, sensitive, real humans. The only way to cure their desire to live as bot people is to cry in front of them as often as possible. I suggest you cry next to their desks. I suggest spreading your tears onto their desks. If possible, collect your tears in jars and place them on your co-workers' desks. Perhaps the experience of being face-to-face with your emotions will inspire them to finally get face-to-face with theirs.
